all of these hire companies gave their equipment for use to us for no charge to clear the rubbish from the bottom of E Field.

Each of these companies gave their time and equipment at the weekends, they asked the drivers to work at weekends to deliver the equipment us and ensured it was unloaded and checked before I was let loose on it.

Hewden started the ball rolling by giving us a JCB Telehandler for the first two weekends of the work to make a start. This was followed by M&J who provided a Dumper to move the rubbish to the car park for removal. Again Blythewood came to the rescue and aslo gave us two weekemds use of a very big 6 tonne dumper. CW Hire provided us with a Bobcat which was excellent for filling the skips and moving stuff quickly around what was fast becoming more like a building site each weekend.

We were extremely well looked after by the fantastic services provided by Select Plant Hire. Dominic Daly and his team proved to be and absolute God send to us. They provided at least five weekends of equipmnet, Dumpers, JCB Backhoe, Roller and the greatest provision of all was the driver Phil. Withiout Phil I think I would still be stuck at the bottom of  E Field swearing at a big yellow JCB. Phil was with us for three weekends and did everything in his power to clear the site and get it tidy.

Please click on each of the companies names above to find out more about them and the services the provide, maybe we can all help each other as you never know when you may need a skip or a JCB.

 Skip And Grab Lorry Donations

We had to somehow get the rubbish removed from the car park and I was fast learning that getting this done for free was going to be difficult but I was not going to be beaten. The lead was taken by Lynch and i would like to offer my sincere thanks to Raj who led the intitative and provided the first grab lorry.

Lynch have continued to show support to our project by again coming to our rescue when we had 60 ton of Organic compost delivered this weekend April 8th. They supplied us with a Bobcat and a Dumper to load and shift the compost to each of our plots. Without the help from Jamie and the team I think we would have been shovelling until Christmas. We offer our sincere thanks to all at Lynch. Photos of project compost can be seen on our photo page.

Rachel at Thames Materials listened to my pleas and came up trumps with another grab lorry and packed in as much of the rubbish as possible

We made great headway as 3 lorry loads made a huge dent in the heap that was slowly engulfing the car park. J O Doherty stepped up to the plate with another lorry  and this seemed to break the back of the rubbish

A grab lorry for rubbish is expensive as the hire company also have to pay to transfer the waste removed. We understand that the cost of each lorry load removed by the above companies was £850 and for that we are very thankful.

Skips were provided by

Greater London Waste helped out on a cold wet saturday morning and sent one of their lorries for a wait and load. They hadn't bargained for Phil and the dancing digger from Select being the one to fill the lorry. How we managed to get 25 yards of rubbish into a 16 yard is unthinkable. Well we managed to get it off the ground with a very well packed load.

Malbay Waste waste were another huge help when they sent us a 25 yard low fill skip. This was filled with the use of the Bobcat that had been provided by CW Plant Hire my thanks to John for coming all the way in from Loughton to help us out.

Gowing and Pursey were a company that I had come across years ago and not to wish leave anyone out I gave them a call and they were happy to send in a 16 Yard skip for us to fill over a weekend.

GBN a local firm operating from Southgate again came in on a saturday morning for a wait and load. Their driver was plied with tea while we did our best to get 25 yards into a 16 yard skip.

Once we started work on all of our projects there were a lot of companies who helped us that would have gone un-noticed as their donations of products may not have been seen by everybody. Some products were used on the rubbish clearance project such as chainsaws and files, other products have been used in the Trading Hut refurbishment. So just beacuse you did not see a big dumper with a logo on the side of it does not mean that we did not get help in other areas.

We are very thankful to all of the companies who have given their time to help us. Each of these companies has given their product for free. When aksed to donate a product the marketing team from these companies were happy and willing to assist.

Husqvarna provided the chainsaw needed to clear back the trees in order to get the diggers in to move the rubbish away.

Oregon provided the safety helmet and gloves along with filing kits chains and oil to keep the saw going on what turned out to be a very busy schedule

McDonalds

Pizza Hut

Tesco

Sainsbury

Marks and Spencer

KFC

all provided luches for the wrok party teams each weekend.

MK Electrics provided the Sockets and fittings for the Hut Re-furb. Some of the product they supplied has not yet been fully released on the open market. Their new range of Masterseal Plus weatherproof range will be insatlled to part of the re-furb.

Marshall Tufflkex who provided the PVC Conduit and Fittings into which we have run the cabling to offer protection to all circuits being installed.

Irish Driver Harris who provided some of the cabling required

Prysmian who provided the rest of the cabling for the Trading Hut Re-furb. The cables they supplied form part of thier Afumex range - Afumex means  that in the event of a fire does not spread the flame, that it's self extinguishing and does not produce harmful smoke or acid fumes - all these effects happen with 'normal' pvc cables and sometimes with cables described as 'low smoke' but Afumex will not make the fire any worse than it already is and helps people evacuate quickly and safely from the fire. The UK are leading the way in Europe and our range of Afumex is setting a new higher standard

Steelmart who provided the corrugated roofing sheets. These roofing sheets are 16 foot long and a metre wide and will now give us a fully waterproof roof to the old hut. The sheeting is strong and will last for many years. We woudl like thank Steelmart for getting theses sheets to us all the way from Shropshire.

Builder Depot who provided the plywood sheeting for the roof which we have laid beneath the corrugated sheets to form the base to strenghten then roof.

Wickes put their name to our project by kindly donating 2 ton of sand and 300kg of cement so that we could lay a screed floor in the old trading hut.

Granfix Products helped us to get the floor levelled off by providing us with levelling compound and bonding agent. We are thankful for their help and recomend their self levelling compound as it does what it says on the tin.

Arco also donated some of their floor safety paint to ensure that we have a non slip and washable floor. I would like thank Neil Jowsey for arranging one of his team to visit us and find the correct product.

Hombase also helped to make our old hut more of a home by very kindly providing us with kitchen units, taps, sink and counter top so that we ensure that our community teams have and area for rest and welfare facilities.

Having spent the last few weeks putting together the old trading hut and getting the Kitchen units ready I was grateful for the assistance provided by Hyco Manufacturing in providing us with two under sink water heaters. These units will be fitted to both of our sinks and will finally provide hot water to the taps.

H+H Celcon have come to the front in supporting us by providing the blocks needed to build the toilets.

Plumbworld very kindly have supplied us with the toilets pans, cisterns and basins for both our ladies and gents facilities.

We would like to thank Scott Morris and the team at Plumbworld for helping out.

The sand and cement to build the walls has been kindly donated by Roy and the team at Buildbase New Southgate.
